As the month of November approaches, the question of whether the students, teachers, and staff will return to the school building for in-person learning is still up in the air. To help answer this question, The Kearnian reached out to principal, Ms. Richardson, for her input on this topic.
Q: With safety being the number one concern, is there a specific date or month that you think we will be able to return to the school building for in-person learning?
A: At this point, we do not have a date or month that I think we will be able to return to the school building for in-person learning. With the numbers in town and statewide going up, it is most important to evaluate it each month. The Board is committed to return when it is safe to.
Although there is still uncertainty revolving around the future of education, Ms. Richardson was happy to provide some words of encouragement for the students navigating virtual learning:
“What I would like everyone to know is that we are proud of the way Kearny HS students are handling their new normal. It is so important now more than ever to remember to be part of the solution, not the problem. Wear your mask, wash your hands, social distance and stay out of crowds. . .
Class of 2021, we want nothing more than to get you back in our HS so that you can spend time with your peers who you have grown up with. We are working on that and hoping we can have a fantastic graduation for you in our stadium on our turf.
All students, what doesn’t break you makes you stronger. Do not give up. Wake up every day as you have done in elementary and middle school, get on your google meets and learn from our amazing teachers who are 100% here for you. Yes it is different, yes it may be harder for some, but we are KEARNY STRONG and I want every student to pass all of their classes and every senior to be recognized on their special day. . . We are here for you. Let us help. Stay safe and stay strong. It’s the Kearny way.”
