On social media, the rumors of a school shooting flooded everyone’s feed. Students and parents became concerned about the risk of attending school that day while police officers and educators knew that something had to be done to control the situation. As a result of the multitude of threats and reminders of the threats, police officers were parked in the patrol cars outside of school buildings across the country to ensure the safety of students and some districts went a step further and closed school for the day. However, the hysteria resulted in many students not attending in light of the recent shooting in Oxford High School i on November 30th, just two weeks earlier. Amid all the rumors, investigators have begun arresting individuals associated with spewing threats of gun violence. Fortunately, no school shootings have been reported as a direct result of the rumors.
