The Kearnian had the opportunity to interview the new Principal for Kearny High School, Mr. Brack. Coming over from Lincoln Middle School, he brings with him over a decade of experience as a principal. First he was Vice Principal of Washington School for three years, afterwards the Principal of Garfield School for five years, then a Principal of Lincoln for four, and finally he is now the Principal of Kearny High School. With such a long tenure, the school body is eager to learn more about Mr. Brack’s plans for KHS.
Mr. Brack went over his goals for the 2023-24 school year and what it is like to be back at Kearny High School.
“My goals for this year for both teachers, staff, and students go hand in hand. For students, I want to create enthusiasm for academic performance by having our teachers show direct results for their efforts,” said Mr. Brack.
Mr. Brack also expressed the importance of maintaining good relationships with the teachers and staff.
For teachers and staff, I plan to do the same. They have achievements that should be given their due and rewarded for them. Also, staff will be included in planning the agendas meetings, as well as addressing the concerns of teachers for building maintenance. And as always, I will work to get parents more involved.”
It’s been over ten years since Mr. Brack has worked at the high school, but he is glad to be back.
“I was eager to embrace the opportunity to become the principal here, and be an administrator for the young adults who will soon follow their dreams. I am happy that as they continue to develop, there are a myriad of programs and clubs that they can learn from, and share lasting experiences with each other in them.”
Mr. Brack has worked in education for over many years starting by working with non-verbal children, and those with behavioral issues. He eventually worked at the high school and worked his way to principal.
Having worked in many capacities in the district, he understands some of the issues.
“Right now, I plan to have restrictions on phone usage in the classroom and bathrooms, and also more strict guidelines with hoodies,” said Mr. Brack. “I realize it is not the most popular, however it is out of safety for both students and staff.”
When Mr. Brack is not working, he keeps himself busy with some exercise.
“I am quite a fan of martial arts, and have been practicing it for many years,” said Mr. Brack. I train in Karate, Kick-Boxing, and dabble a bit in Jiu-Jitsu. And of course, I am a fan of the classic College Football.”
In the first few weeks, Mr. Brack is making a positive impact on the building and the school is interested to see what the future holds.
