Upcoming Summer Movies

Summer is approaching fast which means a new set of highly anticipated movies will be released. This year there is a stellar lineup of interesting and long awaited movies to look forward to. We made a short preview of some of the movies we find most interesting down below. 

Luca –

Luca is the newest Pixar movie to be produced and is set to release on June 17th. The movie is set around a gorgeous seaside town in Italy. It follows the story of Luca, a sea monster, and his new best friend as they experience what life is like above water and all the adventures that come with it. 

The Forever Purge –

The Forever Purge is the finale of the popular franchise, The Purge, set in a dystopian America where for one night only, all crime is legal. This final installment is a direct sequel to the 2016 film, The Purge: Election Year, and will revolve around a set of characters stranded in Texas after the election and the final purge day. The film will be released on July 2nd.

Space Jam: A New Legacy –

Those who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s most likely remember the original Space Jam. For those who do not remember the original or never watched it, the story revolves around an evil alien theme park owner who needs a new attraction. He has his minions kidnap the Looney Tunes characters, and Bugs Bunny challenges them to an epic basketball game. Both sides receive assistance from pro basketball players including Michael Jordan. The reboot roughly follows the same plot and has upped the visuals. It will be released in theaters on July 21st and will be available on HBO Max for free for one month. 

Black Widow –

Fans of Marvel have been waiting for this film for what seems like a lifetime. The film tells about the formerly vague origins of the Black Widow or Natasha Romanova, and how she came to be the calm, cool, and collected spy operative that we know now. Black Widow will be released on July 9th in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access.

In the Heights –

In the Heights is a musical developed from the stage musical of the same title produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, known for his role in creating the mega-hit musical Hamilton. The story follows a bodega owner and his troubles in the small neighborhood of Washington Heights in NYC, after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune. It will be released on June 11th in theaters and on HBO Max. 

Suicide Squad 2 –

The sequel to the 2016 film Suicide Squad is being released on August 6th in theaters and HBO Max. The general concept follows villains who risk their lives in order to save the world and get a shorter/end to their prison sentences.
