Sports Roundup 3

Victoria Kulikowski

Boys soccer has played well all season, especially this October. Seeing no loss since their game against Roxbury on September 23rd, it is safe to say that their practice pays off. With the Hudson County Tournament quarterfinal rounds starting on October 16th, we see Kearny constantly winning. The KHS Boys Soccer team ranks high, and even reached the semi-finals on the 21st! Their season is heading in a great direction.

Boys Soccer Scores:

10/5 vs. Dickinson, won 2-1

10/7 vs St. Peter’s Prep, won 5-0

10/9 vs Hudson Catholic, won 9-1

10/12 vs North Bergen, won 2-0

10/14 vs Bayonne, won 10-0

10/16 vs Dickinson, won 3-1 (Hudson County Tournament, quarterfinal round)

10/19 vs Hudson catholic, won 6-0

10/21 vs Hoboken, won 8-0 (Hudson County Tournament, semifinal)

With similar scores to the boys, girls soccer is keeping up! With a minor change in wins and scores, they are also setting a high example for future games. Also winning both rounds played for the Hudson County Tournament, there is no doubt that they will place high in this tournament!

Girls Soccer Scores:

10/8 vs Lyndhurst, won 2-0

10/11 vs Westfield, lost 2-1

10/13 vs Kinnelon, won 4-1

10/16 vs Union City, won 10-0 (Hudson County Tournament, quarterfinal round)

10/21 vs Secaucus, won 5-0 (Hudson County Tournament, semifinal round)

10/23 vs Millburn, lost 4-2

Still flipping the coin between wins and losses, our girls tennis team seems to hold up weakly against other high school teams around NJ. Their season ended on Friday, October 22nd, with a grand total of 5 wins out of 14 games.

Girls Tennis Scores:

10/6 vs Bayonne, lost 3-2

10/7 vs Memorial, lost 3-2

10/13 vs Ferris, won 4-1

10/18 vs Snyder, won 4-1

10/22 vs St. Dominic, lost 3-2 (Hudson County Girls Tennis Tournament, first round)

Girls volleyball still fails to make their team scores pretty. With a loss in the first round of the Hudson County Tournament, hoping is sure to make a small difference, if any. Surely the whole school is rooting for them to get back on track with future games.

Girls Volleyball Scores:

10/6 vs Memorial, lost 2-0

10/7 vs. Hoboken, lost 2-1

10/13 vs Hudson Catholic, lost 2-0

10/15 vs North Bergen, lost 2-0

10/18 vs McNair, lost 2-0 (Hudson County Tournament, 1st round)

10/21 vs Harrison, lost 2-1

Our football team got their first win all season! Though a point margin of 4 does not seem wide, it was euphoric for the team on October 15th. Apart from that win, the losses do not stop coming in, but if the team is motivated enough to make winning a habit. The season will be a more positive experience for everyone.

Football Scores:

10/8 vs Bloomfield, lost 51-19

10/15 vs Newark East Side, won 35-31

10/22 vs Belleville, lost 41-0
