The play, Puffs, was written by Matt Cox, and is a parody of the book series, Harry Potter. The primary focus is the Hufflepuffs, rather than the cardinal Hogwarts members we know and love. From grades 1-7 in Hogwarts, The Puffs will be seen facing comedic moments packed with action and friendship. This play will perform on December 5th and 6th, at 7pm, at Kearny High School. Prices range from 6$ for students and seniors, and 8$ for adults.
Onto the interviews…! Below, we hear from major contributors to Puffs creation.
Milagros Gonzalez (AKA Mrs.G) is Puffs’ director, and is responsible for guiding the students with lines, scenes, props, and more. Mrs. G says her favorite part about directing this show is having the opportunity to find new talent at Kearny High School (KHS). Not only has she directed at KHS for a whopping 10 years, she has also worked for West Houston theatre, Ridgewood, Gilbert and Sullivan Opera, and the Park Players! Mrs. G has always wanted to do this show because she is a huge fan of the Harry Potter series.
Madelyne Pichardo (AKA Maddie) is stage manager for Puffs. She is responsible for helping produce Puffs both on and off stage. Maddie says her favorite part about forming a well-rounded, spectacular show is being able to step up and help out her crew. She is awfully passionate about her position, and has been stage manager for three years. When Maddie graduates, she hopes to continue to help and contribute to future KHS productions.
Jasmine Rosa Santamassino not only plays Megan Jones in Puffs, but she depicts five other characters! That’s six roles total, in just one play! Jasmine is a seasoned high school senior in the acting and singing scene. For reference, she was in the previous plays: Shrek, The Addams Family, and Mama Mia. She was also involved in a musical theater summer enrichment program for three years, and has been affiliated with our school’s choir, the K-Birds, for four years. Jasmine hopes to participate in more activities in her senior year.
In Puffs, Miguel Pinero plays the lead role, Wayne Hopkins. Miguel is a high school senior who has been involved in theater for the past four years. However, he has been singing since Pre K. Miguel’s favorite part about acting is having the chance to build relationships with his fellow peers. Additionally, he holds a strong deal of respect and admiration for the hit series, Harry Potter, and thus has always aspired to be part of this senior play. This is one of his last shows in KHS.
