Kearny High hosted the Band-Aid festival on Saturday May 9th. During Band-Aid, schools from our area come to KHS to play music from their Spring Concert repertoire, and get feedback from the renowned composer, Patrick Burns. This is the second year the festival was held and will continue to be held annually to spread camaraderie and community in our area. This festival is such a great opportunity for highschoolers in our area to see what other schools are doing and to connect with people outside of our own schools. It also allows students to work with a composer and conductor and to get helpful feedback.
This year, the schools featured were Memorial High Band directed by Charli Castiblanco, Weehawken High Band directed by Anthony Nunez, North Arlington High Band directed by Erica Walsh, and of course, the KHS Symphonic Band directed by our own Danny Conde.
North Arlington High performed a song from James Bond. Weehawken High played Novo Lenio. Kearny High played Diamond Variations.
The festival is something new for KHS, but it is something that is hopefully going to continue annually to spread community, and to allow musicians from other schools to interact with each other.
