May 20th at 7:00pm was the annual KHS Spring Concert. This event showcased multiple songs performed by Jazz Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, K-Birds, Chorus, and the Blooming Voices Collective.
Starting off the concert was Jazz Band. They performed four songs: The Thumb, Into the Sunset, Over the Rainbow, and Poinciana. Their first song, The Thumb, included a solo from Sofia Alvizures on alto saxophone, Noah Sales on tenor saxophone, Kalebe Garzon on bass guitar, Joel De La Cruz on bass guitar, and Mr. Wilson on piano. Their next song was Into the Sunset, with a solo from Camila Bedoya on flute. The next song was Over the Rainbow with soloists Misael Tiburcio Felipe and Arvyn Bustamante on trumpet. The last song was Poinciana with a solo from Kristina Urbina on flute.

The second group performing was the Chorus. They performed Born This Way, Beautiful featuring soloist Haley Felix. And lastly the iconic Madonna song Like A Prayer, featuring soloists Carlie Vega, Luna Santos, Chloe Latona, Kelsy Arturo, and Jasmine Santamassino.

The third group performing was Concert Band. They performed five songs: Axiom, Desert
Caravan, Brace for Impact, The Dragon Lord, and Hawkeye Overture.
After these three groups, there was a fifteen minute intermission where the audience and performers could go enjoy snacks and beverages. Once intermission was over, we had the Blooming Voices Collective performing. To start this section up was the K-Boys, a new small vocal group with six boys from the K-Birds group. They sang the hit I’ll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan. Afterwards, there were four solo songs, three of them featuring Teen Arts winners Maisie Kelly, Luis Refosco Medina, and Miguel Pinero. Maisie sang Pure As The Driven Snow from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Luis sang Stars from Les Miserables. Miguel sang Hard Luck Woman by the band KISS. Lastly, we had Bryan Chavez sing the theme of the musical film New York, New York.
The fifth group performing was Symphonic Band. They performed eight songs: Wildcat Valley Overture, La La Land, Timepiece, Child’s Lullaby, Con Brio, Mothers Hymn, Diamond Variation, and The Light Eternal. La La Land featured solos from Theresa Moya on oboe, Gabriella Gomez on clarinet, and Noemi Suarez on alto sax.

The sixth and last group performing at this year’s concert was the K-Birds with two songs. The first song they performed was Ahlan Wa Sahlan, an Arabic song. The term ‘Ahlan Wa Sahlan’ translates to welcome others. Finishing off the concert was an eight minute medley based on small parts in songs from the movie Aladdin. This medley included the following songs: Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead, Friend Like Me, Prince Ali, A Whole New World, and Arabian Nights (Reprise). This medley featured many solo parts which gave many people an opportunity to show off their voice in a certain character.
This year’s spring concert was a huge success for all of our groups performing and we hope next year’s will be too!
